Facts about Enid, OK
Serving as the county seat for Garfield County, Enid is home to more than 51,300 residents. It's currently the ninth largest city in Oklahoma. Over the years, the city has acquired a couple of nicknames, both having to do with the amount of wheat and grain storage that is found there.
The nicknames of "Wheat Capital" and "Queen Wheat City" are well deserved, since Enid is known to have the third largest grain storage capacity of any city or town in the world.
When Enid was officially established during the land run of 1893, the station's name became the name for the new settlement. A combination of the oil, wheat, and rail industries spurred growth until after World War II. Today, Enid is known for grain storage, and is also the corporate headquarters for institutional food producer Advance Pierre Foods, farm and hardware supplier Atwood Distributing LP, grain processing and storage firm Johnston Enterprises, manufacturer Pumpstat, and tank tuck fleet operator Groendyke Transport.
